Hearing Aid Styles

Which product style is best? The truth is, with today’s technology, almost any style hearing aid can be fit to most hearing losses. Our audiologists and hearing instrument specialists will help select appropriate styles based on factors as:
  • Degree and configuration of hearing loss
  • Dexterity
  • Lifestyle
  • Telephone use
  • Wireless needs
  • Patient preference
  • Size and shape of the ear and ear canal

Behind the Ear (BTE)

All components of a BTE product are housed behind the ear. They are connected by tubing to an earmold or tip in the ear canal.

Receiver in Canal (RIC)

RIC devices sit behind the ear. The receiver is placed in a plastic tip or earmold and inserted into the ear canal. A wire connects the components behind the ear to the receiver in the ear canal. Many are so small now that others will not know you are wearing them.

Custom Products

Custom devices are made for each patient to fit in the ear and ear canal. A silicone impression is made of the ear and sent to the manufacturer for production. Some of the latest advancements include devices that are so small, others will not know that you are wearing them.
Invisible in Canal (IIC)
IIC products are inserted to the second bend in the ear canal.
Completely in Canal (CIC)
CIC instruments are housed deeper in the canal.
In the Canal (ITC)
ITC products fill the ear canal.
In the Ear (ITE)
ITE devices fill the concha bowl.
